More and more research is being done on the genetics and link between autism and metabolic disorders. A good article on this:

Sharing my journey as the mother of a bright and happy child with Asperger's Syndrome, and wife to a hardworking, loyal husband, who is an Aspie, too.
My son has been exhibiting a bizarre list of symptoms that have defied diagnosis thus far. I came across the the same article you reference here a couple of hours ago. My son's pediatrician has adopted a "wait and see" stance but given a very serious hospitalization while on vacation in which my son was in an altered mental status for nearly 72 hours, I am vigilantly pursuing every avenue. My son's psychiatrist has supported us in this search ... thank God for practitioners who listen, care and worry over each patient as if they were their own. Obviously I don't know yet if my son fits the diagnostic criteria for OXPHOS but I am encouraged by this scientific development.
